Is this controlling/abusive behavior?

I'm really hoping I'm overreacting here (it wouldn't be the first time) and I'd like some input. My boyfriend and I got into a sort-of fight the other day over wedding dresses. He wants to be very involved in picking out my dress and complained when I said he couldn't because I wanted to surprise him and follow with tradition. He whined that he might "hate it" which irked me. I dress well and he has always said he likes how I dress, so I don't really understand why he's so worried about the wedding dress. He wouldn't drop it and kept bothering me until our mutual friend backed me up. Later, in the spirit of compromise, we looked over dresses together (none of the ones I'm actually considering purchasing) and he showed me which aspects he liked. He didn't use to care about how I dress but lately he's taken a very strange interest in it. He always asks for my opinions on how he dresses though and I wonder if he just expects the same from me. I have an aunt whose husband is VERY controlling and will only let her wear what he wants and so I guess I'm worried about that. I sort of wonder if he'll become very controlling with how I dress and if that's preemptive behavior to abuse. Any help would be great!
